Jennifer West’s print Dawn Surf Jellybowl (Donuts and Sanded at Dawn), was produced on the occasion of her solo show at S1 Artspace, Aloe Vera & Butter in February 2012. The print shows two stills from Dawn Surf Jellybowl Film..., 2011 whose 16mm film negative was manipulated as follows: sanded with surfboard shaping tools, sex wax melted on, squirted, dripped, splashed, sprayed and rubbed with donuts, zinc oxide, cuervo, sunscreen, hydrogen peroxide, tecate, sand, tar, scraped with a shark’s tooth, edits made by the surf and a sea while film floated in waves.

Jennifer West was born Topanga, California and currently lives and works in LA. She has exhibited widely internationally with solo exhibitions at The Highline, New York (2012); S1 Artspace, Sheffield; Vilma Gold, London; Franklin Works, Minneapolis and Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston. In 2009 she was commissioned to produce a project, Skate the Sky, for the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern, London, and in 2011 she was Artist in Residence at MIT List Visual Arts Centre in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She is currently exhibiting at the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds and Nottingham Contemporary. West is represented by Vilma Gold, London and Marc Foxx Gallery, Los Angeles.
